King Tide Miami Jones Florida Mystery Volume 7 AJ Stewart 9781945741043 Books
There are some authors that when I read their books, I smile. A. J. Stewart is one of those. His Miami Jones character is a regular guy with a quick mind and a smart mouth. He also has a moral compass and a good heart. So about this book. It is reminiscent of those old time whodunits where a group of people are confined together due to circumstances beyond their control, and murder happens. The plot thickens, and our hero must put all the clues together and reveal the bad guy for a climactic ending. There is lots of fun here, when Miami and friends Ron and Cassandra are trapped by a hurricane with a group of guests isolated in a Palm Beach five star hotel. Guess who's stuck there too? Miami's police detective friend/nemesis, Detective Ronzoni. Together they work to figure out who did the deeds.
Enjoyable reading, bringing back a classic mystery formula.

King Tide Miami Jones Florida Mystery Volume 7 AJ Stewart 9781945741043 Books Reviews
I actually enjoyed the series, but by the 7th book, I really had my fill of the "Miami Jones " character. I have some suggestions for the next book in the series. I'd like to see Danielle dump Miami Jones because she fell in love with someone at her new job. She could tell him that she was sick of his frat boy persona and life style. She should tell him to drop the stupid "Miami" name, and grow up. What grown-up goes around calling himself by his alma mater? I'd like to see the next time that someone calls him "Mr. Jones" and he goes into his tired "That's my father's name", that they call him Mrs. Jones. Still, an enjoyable read.
I read books like some people use paper towels. I can read one in a day pretty easily. I'm a streak artist in terms of subject selection. I read serious subjects (philosophy, history, physics, etc) until my brain says its had enough and it just wants to be entertained for awhile. That's when I miss John D McDonald and Travis McGee. John D provided the whole package, believable plots, knowledgeably developed characters, lively enough action to hold your attention, and researched facts to support the story's premise. Fortunately, I've found two or three writers here in the 21st century, who have developed sufficient mystery writing skills that I know I can count on their product for a satisfying read and a rewarding adventure. A.J.Stewart's Miami Jones series is my most recent discoveries, and I've enjoyed all 7 of the series. The dialogue and characters are crisp and entertaining, the story lines are solid, and he does a great job of capturing the feel of the Palm Beach location. If you need a vacation, but you only have 5 or 10 bucks to spend, one of these stories is a good investment.
I look forward to every new book in the Miami Jones series and have not been disappointed yet.
This book is a good who done it with a hurricane and a good old fashion linen suit only Miami could rock.
I really like the change in the repeat characters.. they always stay true to their core but grow and mature with each book and it feels like a visit with old friends. The new people we are introduced to are a lot like the people I know in real life...quirks and good and not perfect who are sometimes really smart and some times really don't act like it.
So. Before my review becomes as long as the book I will stop after saying this just read it.. I think it is very worth your time!
One of those instances where I am glad I didn't read the synopsis before I bought the book. I don't read 'whodunits'. Never really enjoyed them as I tend to spend too much time trying to figure out whodunit. For me, what saved the experience was the talent Stewart has as a writer.
Stewart does a good job keeping Miami Jones in character as a wise cracking person. Although in the series, Jones is a PI, in this book he does a credible job as a detective. He even gets along with Ronzoni in this edition, as both are trapped in a Palm Beach hotel during the hurricane.
On a personal note, Stewart's description of the hurricane's wind and rain brought back memories, not so pleasant, of mid August 1992 when I experienced Hurricane Andrew first hand.
A.J. takes a break here from Miami's usual bull-in-a-china shop, rattle-things-around-until something falls out approach and uses a classical Agatha Christie locked...hmm...not room, nor train, but hotel whodunit. The dialog, as usual, is topnotch, and Miami's methodical weeding out of "the usual suspects" is logical and...surgical. He has little interaction here with his love Danielle (which is a bummer, but hey, ya can't have everything) but does actually forge some bonds with his cop quasi-nemisis, Ronzoni. Together they gather most of the clues, but it's our guy Miami, of course, who unravels all the complexities. This one is, purposely, more claustrophobia-inducing than the other Miami Jones novels - which as a rule take your around all of mid- and south Florida - but that's what a locked-hotel mystery is supposed to do. It had to be a stretch for A.J. to pull this off, but he did, masterfully.
I just ordered this book last week. Having it is like a double edged sword - I wanted to keep reading because I couldn't figure out what might happen. Then again, the faster I read, the closer I got to the end.
In this book, Miami is unexpectedly trapped in a luxury hotel (The Mornington) with a hurricane brewing. Fortunately he's trapped with Ron and the Lady Cassandra. BUT he's also trapped with Detective Ronzoni. Of course, having these two in the hotel with him is fortunate because there is a crime. Two crimes. The crime possibly (no spoilers) involves a group staying for an international bachelor/bachelorette get together.
As always with Miami, he can see all the possibilities involving possible suspects, enabling the crime to be solved. There are spots of humor in spite of everything, and of course, many twists and turns so that you can't finger the suspect until the end. A great book!
It's too long between Miami books!
